Theory is not inherently healing, liberatory, or revolutionary. It fulfills this function only when we ask that it do so and direct our theorizing towards this end… I came to theory because I was hurting—the pain within me was so intense that I could not go on living. I came to theory desperate, wanting to comprehend— to grasp what was happening around and within me. I saw in theory then a location for healing.

Psychoanalysis and sociocultural ideology are increasingly at the forefront of the work that we do as clinicians. As clinicians of color we often find ourselves in unique social locations that inform our psychoanalytic practice. This reading group will offer an opportunity for clinicians of color to come together and share their experiences and ideas as we further our efforts to read psychoanalytic works with color in mind.
