flyerThe field of queer studies is broadly understood as the social, cultural, and political study of desire and how it approaches the development of sexual identity. We will explore how queer theory borrows key elements of psychoanalytical theory, including the idea that sexual identity is developed in complex relationship to others across time. At the same queer theory stresses the contingency, mutability, and transformability of desire and erotic attachment. We will consider some of the political and cultural consequences of this more labile, and “anti-identitarian” view of sexuality, including some of its possibilities and limits in our current time.
