FOCUS ON - Retirement

Retirement: An Indiscreet Conversation

Jeffrey Sandler, MD

2 Tuesdays May 22 & May 29, 7:30-9:00pm

flyerThis class will focus on retirement as an important but neglected milestone in the life of the therapist. Bringing years of experience in working on ethical issues in the psychotherapy community, the instructor will lead participants in an open format intended to foster an in-depth discussion of the topic. Participants need not be anticipating retirement in the immediate future (starting to think about these issues early can only be helpful). The class covers practical and ethical concerns, including the timing of announcing retirement, record keeping, and transfer of care. More importantly, we will explore how retirement impacts the therapist on a personal level in terms of meaning and significance of this critical transition in one’s professional life.
