Traumatic Failures of Containment in Waves of Refugees

Jeanne Carstensen, Interviewed by Lee Slome, PhD

Friday Oct. 13, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Second Friday program includes film screening and exploration of international refugee crisis

What are the overlapping reverberations of the international refugee crisis? With journalist Jeanne Carstensen as our guide, we will examine the crisis first hand through her reporting on harrowing scenes from the mass arrival of migrants in Greece. We also will screen the Oscar-nominated short subject documentary film, 4.1 Miles, which follows the day in the life of a captain in the Greek Coast Guard during which he attempts to save countless refugees. In conversation with analyst Lee Slome, Ms. Carstensen will explore the psychological, political and historical elements within those who are fleeing persecution. We will investigate the reverberating impact of trauma; rippling out from refugees to first responders, NGOs, journalists and communities across the globe.
