Stephanie Pass, Ph.D., Discussant Vivian Dent, Ph.D.

Wednesday Nov. 29, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

flyerDr. Stephanie Pass will discuss the treatment of a fearful and controlling three-year-old boy who required rigid adherence to his idiosyncratic routines. She’ll describe her investigation into the etiology of his imperious and self-defeating behavior – reaching beyond psychodynamic models to consider early trauma and physiological aspects of his experience. Proposing an approach that draws on these three perspectives, she will discuss the implications for how we think about symptoms and about personality itself. Through vignettes from the play therapy and the collateral sessions with his parents, Dr. Pass will describe Toby’s significant progress. She will be joined in conversation by Dr. Vivian Dent who will discuss the somatic impact of trauma and its implications for effective containment in psychotherapy with adults.
