Friday Oct. 27, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

SBCPS is hosting a monthly reading group for interested clinicians at all levels of involvement. Meetings are held in a home in Palo Alto.

Our intent for this meeting is to gather to discuss Philip Roth’s ominously prescient book, The Plot Against America, in which he re-imagines history such that Charles Lindbergh, a white supremacist as well as an isolationist espousing “America First”, defeats Roosevelt in 1940 and undertakes a program of soft antisemitism threatening our political system and democratic values. Our focus for the evening will be to flesh out our psychoanalytic sense regarding the “work we do psychically with our lived experience” (Ogden, 2016) that has the potential to serve as a psychic buffer such that during times of political upheaval/ collective trauma, we don’t just collapse — and we make efforts to help our patients not collapse into fearful, paranoid states or projective acting-out of the “psychotic part of the personality” (Bion).
